Set up Discord (Optional)
Discord is an instant messaging and VoIP social platform which allows communication through voice calls, video calls, text messaging, and media. Communication can be private or take place in virtual communities called "servers". We use this platform to make our workouts more interactive, and of course make our suffering a bit more bearable. Setting this up is optional, and if you decide not to, you will be missing some of the fun.
You will need to download and sign up for Discord. It is available in the App Store or Play store for android devices. It’s a little clunky to figure out, so sign up and play with it a little. We found that using wireless headphones with a built-in mike works best. Otherwise, there will be a lot of background noise which will make the conversation harder to hear.
We will need to know your user name in order for us to be able to send you an invite to the GOP server. The user name is in the following format: username#numeric id. Send us a message via Slak in the #Zwift channel and we'll take it from there.
There are two functions on Discord:
Text Channel (gop-chat) and Voice Channel (gop-voice). We use the voice channel mostly.
Voice Channel (gop-voice): This is where we can talk to each other during the workout. Choose this one during the workout so you can hear and talk to everyone. It is important to be on the voice channel as some instructions will be given out live during the session.
Use the screenshots below, in order to get some basic understanding on how all this works.
Ask question if needed, in the #Zwift-Rides channel on our GOP Slack.
